Do you do SEO for AI (Generative Engine Optimization)?

Last updated: 9/2/2025

With tools like Google’s AI mode being released, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), or optimizing websites to show up in AI search results, is becoming an important aspect of SEO. Often paired with Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), this new discipline builds on the basic principles of SEO while incorporating new techniques.

So do we do it? Yes.

But how?

Identifying content gaps

The biggest GEO challenge that most companies face is a lack of the right kind of content. It is an unfortunate tendency for many businesses to favor website content that is focused on self-promotion rather than answering common buyer questions. This sort of self-affirming content is attractive to marketing departments and executives, but it is utterly unhelpful to real buyers hoping to have their questions answered. Worse still, it gives AI answer engines no reason to associate your solution with the needs presented by a user.

While this is a common problem, it provides the perfect place to start for implementing GEO for your business. Our team will interview key members from your business development team to gain a better understanding of your customer and the common questions that they ask, then we will analyze your content and prompt answer engines to see if the answers to those questions are readily available on your website. This will likely identify a list of “content gaps” on your website where you aren’t addressing topics that are important to your customers. This list will then be developed into an ongoing content strategy to be implemented in the following steps.

Creating authoritative content

In order for answer engines to trust your content enough to cite it to their users, you will need to demonstrate clear authority in your subject matter. We will help you develop a strategy for developing a "knowledge base” around each of your core competencies. For example, if your company specializes in wire harness manufacturing, what types of content should you have on your website to prove to AI answer engines that your company has authority in that industry?

In addition, we will recommend other methods for boosting your authority, such as review collection and professional certifications.

Optimizing for semantic structure

Semantic structure, or the basic structure of websites, has been an essential aspect of SEO for many years. However, it has become an even more important factor for GEO. AI answer engines interpret your website like a human reader would. That means that the information needs to be logically organized and the heading tags (H1, H2, etc) need to form a clear and understandable outline of the page. To make this happen, we will perform an audit of your existing content and come up with a plan to implement coherent semantic structure on both new and existing pages on your website.

SEO best practices

While GEO is a relatively-new discipline, it is still very heavily reliant on the tried-and-true tenets of SEO. As a part of our GEO efforts, we will help you technically improve your website, optimize your existing pages, and find new backlinks. These efforts will help to cement your spot in an AI answer and propel you to a higher position in the search results page.
