Diary of a Co-Op
Summer is finally over and school starts up again today, which means my days as a co-op student have come to an end. I have learned a lot from the team and wanted to share my experience with everyone!
When I first arrived at USDP, I received a warm welcome and was treated as an important part of the team from day one. Everyone was so friendly and they all did their best to help me get settled in. I wasn’t treated as just a co-op student, they trusted me with important tasks and treated me with respect. As I got to know everyone a little better and we became friends, it really became important to me to work hard so that I could help my team out. We really rely on each other around here, so knowing how much my work can affect someone else’s progress on a project was really motivating.
As a design student, I came here eager to learn more about interactive design. I definitely learned a lot of new tools and techniques and have grown as a designer! But I also had a great opportunity to learn more about the business and marketing side of design. I was really impressed by our marketing team, and I am so grateful to have them around! It was so interesting to learn more about what they do, and to talk about managing people/time, and to learn how analytics are used to design a great user experience.
I have spent years in school working on design projects and creating things that had no real world impact, but over the summer I had the opportunity to work on real client work, and it has been such a cool experience! Making clients’ dreams a reality and helping businesses grow is such an amazing thing to be able to do! A website that is clean, visually appealing, and easy to use/navigate can really help a business grow and make money. It has been so rewarding to feel like I am able to use my skills as a designer to help people.
Although I have learned so much this summer, there will always be room for improvement in my life and in my work, and I’m always looking for opportunities to grow. I look forward to gaining even more experience and developing my skills so that I can do more to help my team out and serve our clients even more! I will continue to bring my passion, drive, and enthusiasm for supporting our mission and helping our clients to the office every day as I continue working here part-time.
My summer at USDP has made me feel confident that I made the right career choice, and I am so glad to be a part of the team!
