Team Member Spotlight: Zack Bishop

Last Updated on September 18, 2020

Meet one of our USDPeeps and developer pro, Zack. If Zack were to write his autobiography, it’d be called: From Carny to Coder: How to Adult without Compromising your Inner-Child. To find out why, read on.

What’s your role at USDP?
I am a web developer.

What’s your background?
I used to be in a traveling chocolate carny, I have a BA in English, and I have been a full-time, self-taught developer for eight years.

Why did you want to work with USDP?
When researching potential employers, the first thing I look at is their “Meet the Team” page on their website. In most cases, the number of those holding “fancy titles” (e.g. CEOs, VPs, Directors) outnumber their other employees. To me, this was a giant red flag. This meant they outsourced their work, had a large amount of turn-over, or simply undervalued their employees.  However, with USDP, the opposite was true, there were more employees than executives. In fact, it was very difficult to tell who the actual executives are. To me, this meant that, as a developer, I wouldn’t simply be treated as an asset.

What are your interests/activities outside of work?
Legos, DIY home renovation, Dungeons & Dragons, and fatherhood. Not necessarily in that order.

What’s your work philosophy?
If you’re completely comfortable, you’re not growing. I learn by solving problems. I love it when a project has some element that makes me think “I have no idea how I’m going to accomplish this.”

What did you want to be when you grew up?
An amalgamation of Neil Armstrong, John Bender from the Breakfast Club, and He-Man.

What keeps you busy outside of work?
Trying to keep things out of my children’s mouths.
